It’s snowing…..it’s October 4 and it’s snowing.
Granted this isn’t entirely out of the norm for Winnipeg at this time of year…and, truthfully, it doesn’t usually stay if the snow comes this early.
But there is something depressing about snow in the first week of October…especially when it was scorching hot only 6 short days ago with temps hitting the 80s/high 20′s, in F and C, respectively.
I’m not going to focus on that though…again…positivity here is the thing I’m going for. In order to keep some of the wintry blues away, I’ve come up with a fun idea–that being starting a cookie club. There are five of us..(including some old friends, my cousin and a lovely friend from one of the most difficult jobs I ever worked at) and we are going to try to gather monthly to share some fun cookie recipes. We will each bring half a dozen to share with the group, leaving everyone with 2.5 dozen cookies, with five different flavours (including your own). I am hosting the first and likely the second one. My friend M has offered to host the Christmas one…which will likely be sorta amazing and potentially a lot of work as I think we might have to up the ante to a dozen cookies.
I’m also psyched about this because it gives me something to look forward to, re: my baking…almost like a little project….so I can save my “treat/carb indulgences” for those cookie party weekends.
Speaking of carbs/treats…that brings me to running. Oh how I miss being able to run…alas my mind/emotions/body just don’t seem to want to get ‘er done over the last few weeks. I wouldn’t mind so much, if it wasn’t for the fact that I have a half marathon in just over two weeks. eek. I am going to die. lol. There is part of me that just wants to bow out…but there is the competitive part of me that just won’t let it happen. Even without the training…I am still physically capable…it will just be hard…and likely crazy painful. lol.
I’m hoping, however, that maybe this horrible stint of running…or non-running will end with this race…after all, I have the glorious Walt Disney World Princess Half Marathon coming up in February 2013 and I want to do my very best at a race I have wanted to run for years!
If anyone has any tips for getting over this running rut or even some fun ideas for cookies to bake for my cookie club, I’m all ears–just post it in the comments!
